In Partnership with the United Cerebral Palsy (UCP)

Picture
Cecily's Closet partners with the United Cerebral Palsy (UCP) organization of San Diego County to help make recycled medical equipment available to families that need it!  The UCP accepts and recycles pediatric and adult durable medical equipment to families at no cost. The UCP also can help with the purchase of durable medical equipment if no other source of funding is available. Income guidelines and other eligibility criteria apply and there is an application process.

Please contact Rhonda Van Eklenberg at 858- 571-7803 to learn more about UCP‘s funding assistance and for help determining whether your equipment needs might qualify for this assistance.

Parent to Parent Connection

In addition to our partnership with the UCP, Cecily's Closet encourages parents to make donated equipment available to families in need directly through the Cecily's Closet website. The process is simple:

1) Send us a picture and a description of your item to info@cecilyscloset.org

2) Cecily's Closet will post the item to our Equipment Recycling site and assign the item an Asset # and an email or phone # to contact for more information.

3) Parents can now give, exchange, recycle and receive equipment directly from other families.  It's that easy!

Assistive Technology Network -  Learn about your rights!

Learn how to find the right devices for your needs, how to get them and how to use them. Under the Assistive Technology Act all states are now required to have some kind of assistive device reutilization effort.  This means each state is supposed to have a program that reuses durable medical equipment and assistive devices!

Assistive Technology Systems (CATS)

State Financing Activities

California’s Alternative Financing Program (AFP) uses comparable nonfederal resources rather
than AT Act funding. The state of California offers low-interest, guaranteed loans to finance AT or modified transportation through the Assistive Technology and Modified Transportation Loan Guarantee Program (LGP). LGP is implemented in collaboration with one or more lenders. This program is operated through the California Foundation for Independent Living Centers (CFILC).

Device Reutilization
In collaboration with CFILC, CATS operates an AT Exchange website where individuals and organizations can post AT items for sale or donation. In addition, CATS, CFILC and 22 community-based organizations have
partnered to provide reuse programs throughout the state. The reuse programs accept assistive technology and medical devices, repairs and sanitize them and offer them to individuals with disabilities free of charge or at a low cost.

Device Loan
In collaboration with CFILC, CATS currently supports 13 AT device loan sites throughout the state. Each Device Lending Library has a variety of AT devices for individuals with various types of disabilities. Devices are available for a maximum length of four weeks, but can be renewed. Open-ended loans are also available as long as another consumer does not request the device.

Device Demonstration
California does not use AT Act funds to support demonstration centers. CATS had identified existing
demonstration programs throughout California.

State Leadership Activities
The AT Network, in partnership with CATS, will continue to provide a toll-free information and referral service through 800-390-2699 Voice/800-900-0706 TTY as well as on-line at www.atnet.org.  The AT Network also enhance AT awareness through participation in outreach events throughout the state, disseminating public service announcements, using social media as a strategy, and working in collaboration with other nonprofits and referral agencies. CATS materials also will be disseminated throughout the state to increase AT awareness.
Through partnership with CFILC, CATS conducts Web-based training as well  as trainings via teleconference and in-person throughout the year on AT topics for AT Network members and other interested parties. The training announcements are posted on the AT Network website at www.atnet.org. CFILC also facilitates in-person trainings around the state including an emphasis on identified underserved populations.
