Ema's Story
Ema is a 8 year old girl with a love for people, books, shopping and playing in her beautiful backyard, a gift from her doting Grandparents.
The CC Team heard about Ema from a fellow teacher for children with special needs. Our organization has a soft spot for our teachers - who devote so much time, energy and patience to ensure our children with special needs achieve their milestones. When we heard about this amazing single mom and everything she had done for her adopted daughter, Ema, we knew we had to help. Unlike most of our projects, we were not starting from scratch on this room. Mom had already poured a lot of time and attention into completing a lovely space for her sweet girl. Given we had so much to work with, we were able to pay more time and attention to the details that Mom wanted to bring to life in the room.
Ema was born with a rare genetic disorder known as Apert Syndrome. Her condition requires surgical reconstruction in order to live a healthy life. To date Ema has undergone 13 multi-purposed surgeries. Most require several recovering days and sometimes weeks in bed. Ema is well known in the San Diego medical community. She has been the subject of many studies at Rady's and UCSD. She is also a life time patient and advocate for Fresh Start Surgical Gifts.
Ema is very blessed to have an extraordinary family which include mom, grandparents, great-grandparents and nine aunts and uncles. Ema's mom is one busy woman on the go! She teaches a special needs day class, is a student and is raising her wonderful daughter. She has a heart of gold and is an advocate for her daughter.
Thank you to Bobby and Vay for conducting the on-site visit and creating a dream closet for Ema and creating a cheerful bedroom for her to rejuvenate in. This was a very labor intensive room as we took on some projects that we typically don't do given our tiny budget. Bobby installed new crown molding and baseboard and designed a new closet that will enable Ema to access everything she needs while keeping it pretty and organized. We are so grateful for your team-work and your patience. We would be lost without your A+ skills and support.
And thank you to the Rancho Santa Fe Foundation for generously granting Cecily's Closet the funds to keep our organization chugging along! Thank you for making Ema's Sweet Dream Room makeover a possibility!
