Surf's Up in San Diego...Surf's up for two darling boys, Ethan & Curren, who love the beach, dolphins and all things sandy! These precious twins were a delight to work with and we couldn't stop smiling at their sweet faces as they tried to peek into the room every time we snuck in and out! Their excitement was contagious!
Ethan was diagnosed with a brain tumor at the age of 4. Despite the struggles, countless doctor appointments, chemo and pokes, Ethan's spirit shines through. One look at this sweet face and you can't help but smile. I would dare someone to say no to him! Impossible! Unfortunately, the brain tumor left Ethan unable to walk, stand, swallow or even talk. With a lot of love, support, hugs, kisses, cuddles and therapy Ethan is on the road to recovery. He can walk with assistance and his delayed speech and ataxia are improving. He no longer requires the use of a feeding tube and he is slowly but surely regaining his strength. Ethan was nominated by several people in the community - including members of his medical team and his pre-school teacher. The resounding sentiment in each nomination was that Ethan is a sweet little boy that is fighting hard to regain his developmental abilities. He has come a long way and we at Cecily's Closet are honored to be part of his journey by creating a relaxing, fun sanctuary for him and his brother to enjoy and heal. Ethan and Curren dreamed of being surfers - and we're pretty sure with all the love and support Ethan receives from his doting Mom, Dad and three brothers that one day his dream will be realized. PaintGreen went above and beyond on this room - giving us a beautiful blue background for Emily to transform into the ocean - complete with cresting dolphins and sandy footprints! Emily personalized the space so Ethan and Curren could mark their room - literally - with their own footprints! Thank you Emily for always taking the time to go the extra mile for our special families. And thank you Steve from Bair Home Inspections for putting up with my passionate but crazy plans and for always knowing exactly how to do "the hard-work" that makes these rooms come together! We are so lucky to have the support of our amazing partners. Thank you PaintGreen, Dunn Edwards, Inside Emily Dolton's Head, Bair Home Inspections, and Teen volunteers in Action for everything you did to take this room from blank canvas to surf style retreat! Thank you for your dedication, passion and commitment and for making this Sweet Dream Makeover possible for Ethan and Curran. |
Teen Volunteers in Action (TVIA)Thank you to Teen Volunteers in Action (TVIA) for helping us transform another space for children with special needs in San Diego! This is our 6th time working with this wonderful organization and as expected - these teens worked extremely hard to make a fun space for two special boys. From the moment they arrived they were prepared to roll up their sleeves and take action - from cleaning to painting, making beds and assembling furniture - these young men left quite an impression on us - and the family they were helping.
Teen Volunteers in Action is an organization of young men who, together with their families, participate in structured programs of volunteerism, philanthropy and personal development. TVIA believe that through volunteer projects like Cecily's Closet, these young men will grow up to become strong community leaders. We had seven teens help with every aspect of the room – from painting the closet, to building the furniture, cleaning, and interviewing the family. We would like to commend them for their hard-work and we look forward to working with TVIA in the future! |
