Rocking out with Frederick
Meet future rock star, Frederick! This budding musician is adored by his Mom and Dad and big sister, Faith. Influenced by his musical parents, Frederick has a love for instruments, books, Monsters Inc., and his family. He was nominated by Interim Healthcare for a room makeover from Cecily's Closet.
We had seen videos of Frederick rocking out... but when we got to see this cutie up close and personal we knew we were looking at a future rock star! When he saw his room for the first time he squealed, jumped on his bed (his new stage) and grabbed the guitar and shouted - "I have a guitar!" He walks, hops and jumps to the beat of his own drum. At four years of age, he has personality in spades and a smile to go with it that we believe can charm everyone he meets. Born with Williams syndrome, Frederick has a developmental disorder that affects many parts of the body. His genetic condition is characterized by medical problems, including cardiovascular disease, developmental delays, and learning disabilities. These often occur side by side with striking verbal abilities, highly social personalities and an affinity for music. Williams syndrome (WS) is a genetic condition that is present at birth and can affect anyone. WS affects 1 in 10,000 people worldwide – an estimated 20,000 to 30,000 people in the United States. It is known to occur equally in both males and females and in every culture. Frederick also has Food Protein-Induced Enterocolitis Syndrome (FPIES). FPIES is a type of food allergy affecting the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. Classic symptoms of FPIES include profound vomiting, diarrhea, and dehydration. These symptoms can lead to severe lethargy, change in body temperature and blood pressure. Unlike typical food allergies, symptoms may not be immediate and do not show up on standard allergy tests. Furthermore, the negative allergy evaluation may delay the diagnosis and take the focus off the causative food. The team from Children's Physicians Medical Group met with the family and helped Frederick make the transition from crib to big-boy bed! They installed specialized blackout window coverings. The exclusive duplex fabric of the blackout helps reduce heating and cooling costs, and keeps rooms completely dark even during the day. These special window treatments provide the darkness Frederick needs and can be easily removed. The team also knew the family was interested in a weighted blanket so they had one made with is favorite characters, Monster's Inc. The team knows that siblings are equally important and honored big sister, Faith. In addition to new curtains and bedding, the team created a reading nook for her under her bed with special modular furniture in her favorite color, purple! It is safe to say both kids went to bed with big squeals and big grins! We would like to thank Children's Physician's Medical Group for once again donating their time and talent to help Cecily's Closet complete our 81st room makeover. Thank you to PaintGreen for coming in and kicking off the install process. The task was larger than usual and included wall paper removal, adding wall texture and of course - a perfect paint job with 3 different colors! Thank you to Bassett Furniture in San Diego for providing us with a beautiful dresser to keep all of Frederick's clothes and supplies. It is stunning and we were so thrilled for it to fit perfectly in his room! Thank you to San Diego Family Magazine for the lovely donation of toys and books. The extra presents were very much appreciated by big sister, and Frederick too! And thank you to the Rancho Santa Fe Foundation for generously granting Cecily's Closet the funds to keep our organization chugging along! Thank you for making Frederick's Sweet Dream Room makeover a possibility! Frederick's Rock-n-Roll RoomVolunteers Give With The Heart

Thank you to Children's Physicians Medical Group for once again coming together as a team to design, plan, shop and install our 81st room makeover.
Children’s Physicians Medical Group (CPMG) is the only medical network in San Diego County and southern Riverside specializing in children’s health from birth through age 18. We have enjoyed working with this team for the past few years and they always hit it out of the park! Thank you Linda and team for your hard-work! Thank you to our number one partner, PaintGreen. Since day one, PaintGreen has opened its heart to Cecily's Closet by providing perfect and professional paint jobs for EVERY one of our room makeovers!
PaintGreen was founded by Jon Ray, who has been painting since 1996. Jon ran a student painting franchise while going to business school at Seattle Pacific University. During this time, he learned that providing quality work and operating in an environment of integrity earned him referrals, was a great way to grow a business, and matched his personal values. Jon founded PaintGreen in 2006. Customers receive high-quality painting for a fair price. Painters receive fair compensation and respect on the job. Suppliers get honest dealings. Thank you to Laura and the team at Bassett Furniture for once again supporting our efforts to transform a room for a child with special needs.
