Lions are fierce, strong and take care of their young. To have a heart of a lion means you are bold and brave and protective - assertive in love. Sweet Holly pictured here basking in the moonlight from her freshly painted mural is lucky enough to have a Mom who defines having the heart of a lion, and an equally strong and supportive Dad to care for her.
We were so blessed to meet Laura and her supportive family. Laura, along with her devoted husband, Vincent, and their sixteen year-old daughter, Emily, function as a team to provide Holly,14, everything she needs to grow and thrive. Laura has a pack to take care of - but she does so with love and care. She is fierce and giving at the same time.
Holly, who loves Lions and the movie the Lion King, was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy, Cerebral Degenesis, a brain anomaly and microcephalus. She was nominated by her social worker to receive a sweet dream room makeover from Cecily's Closet. Her social worker felt Holly deserved a special place to both stimulate her attention and enable her to relax and rest on the harder days.
Holly is non-verbal but she speaks the language of the heart. Through her eyes and gestures she can convey her needs and express love. We adore these pictures of Holly because you can see how happy she is in her new room - and we are so pleased!
Holly's favorite "friend" is a giant stuffed lion, named Leo. She loves Reggae music and can often be seeing scooting around the house on her bottom, her way of getting where she needs to be on her own accord.
Holly was nominated for this room in large part due to her devoted and caring family. In addition to Holly, Mom, Laura also cares for her brother who has special needs, and her aging mother.
Thank you to Hanna's Murals for taking the time to speak with Mom about Laura and strategizing about the best mural to brighten her room. This amazing Lion King mural is so real and life-like. The pictures tell the best story. Just look at the love on her face. Thank you Hanna for transforming this room into a truly magical place.
Thank you to PaintGreen for once again providing a beautiful background for our team to build upon. The calming color provided the peaceful setting that truly inspired the space. And thank you to our amazing Project Lead, Suzy, for creating the plan, designing the room and bringing the team together to complete the project on time and on budget!
Thank you to our donors and for the Rancho Santa Fe Women's Fund for enabling us to complete our 63rd and final room makeover for 2014. We couldn't have ended on a more uplifting note!
Volunteers are the heart and soul of our operation. We were thrilled when Qualcomm decided to partner with us again on another child's room makeover.
