Jacob's Story

Take me out to the ball game! Jacob's All-Star room is complete - with hand painted pictures of his family's favorite teams: the SD Chargers and the Sacramento Kings! Jacob and his younger brother Josiah now have a room that rivals even the biggest sports fanatic.
Jacob was nominated for a room by San Diego Hospice. When the director of this program reached out to us for help - we couldn't say no. Jacob is a tough, little two year old boy that has had his share of tough times. When his loving Mom and Dad took him from the hospital they were told he would not live past the age of six months. Can you imagine celebrating the birth of your child and receiving this devastating news in the same breath? It takes strength, courage and love to raise a child with special needs. Jacob's family takes everything in stride and refuses to give up hope. They call Jacob their "miracle child" and we agree. It is amazing to see how all the children in the home pitch in to help and support one another. They define TEAM and family.
Jacob was born with a type of hydrocephalus, cerebral palsy and a heart problem. Due to his challenges Jacob may never walk or communicate verbally. But that will not stop him! He was recently moved from in-patient Hospice care and reunited with his loving and supportive family of eight at home. Sports bring this family together and since this family has more than enough siblings for a basketball team - we surprised the family with their very own hoop! We know that Jacob has a long road ahead of him but we know that he is a fighter and that his family is surrounding him with love and support.
Thank you to our super-star partner, PaintGreen, for once again providing a beautiful backdrop to complement the artwork of Emily Dolton, from Inside Emily Dolton's Head. Emily did not disappoint with her inspirational art! After seeing the impact sports has on this family's life - the choice for this room was easy. Emily brought LT into Jacob's room and tricked out every square inch with basketball, baseball and football decor. The fun locker nightstands make for a perfect place to keep a pile of story books that were donated as part of a recent book drive sponsored by Froots in Carlsbad.
Why is getting a room makeover so important? Because children need a special place to grow and thrive. There are thousands of children with special needs in San Diego. Jacob spends the majority of his time at home. He is very medically fragile and does not get to enjoy the outdoors as much as a typical child does. By providing Jacob with a comfortable and safe place to rest his head, with developmentally stimulating toys and books, he will be better able to achieve his full potential.
Thank you to our generous donors for making Jacob's "Sweet Dreams" makeover come true!
