Syler is a five year old boy with an infectious laugh. He is sweet, obsessed with cars and a delight to his family and friends.
Syler was nominated for a Sweet Dream room makeover by his Special Education Early Childhood teacher at Kumeyaay Elementary School in San Diego.
His teacher met Syler when he turned 3 years old before he started in her special education classroom. As she describes it, she met a boy who at the time was unable to acknowledge her or make eye contact. He used virtually no sounds or vocalizations, and had stereotypical, repetitive play as many children with a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorders.
But this teacher believed in Syler and knew that he was capable of so much more! Fast forward two years later and Syler is a loving little boy that has worked very hard to integrate himself into this big world. With the help of his devoted parents, family, and service providers, Syler has evolved into a happy little boy who is becoming socially connected, playful, and starting to talk!
Syler's play and social skills have progressed nicely over the years and he is now interested in peers, a variety of toys and activities, and loves to read books. The team took the recommendations from his therapist, family and team and incorporated these needs into the room design.
The team provided a room that was not only fun - but functional! His bed is a one-of-a-kind invention from the designers on the g-Serve team at Gensler. They turned his bed into Mack's trailer - and the walls came to life in Radiator Springs!
We would like to thank Gensler and the g-Serve team for donating their time and talent to help Cecily's Closet complete our 75th room makeover. The team at Gensler reached out to their business partners and secured wonderful paint and fabric donations from the following companies: Momentum, Carnegie Maharam, and Dunn Edwards. The team went above and beyond completing not only a room for Syler, but two special places for his big brothers.
Thank you to Laura Cross from Bassett Furniture for leveraging her extensive contacts to get a beautiful twin mattress donated from Sealy. Thank you to Laura and her husband for the beautiful donation of a diffuser and essential oils for Syler to enjoy.
Thank you to San Diego Family for their generous donation of an awesome cars bike and additional small cards toy with app!
Thank you to Schmidt Fire Protection for the donation of the bells and sensor equipment to make the room not only beautiful but helpful, too.
Thank you to PaintGreen for coming in and kicking off the install process with a perfectly painted fresh coat of Glacier Ice paint.
Thank you to Emily Dolton of Inside Emily Dolton's Head for the beautiful artwork - she truly made Radiator Springs come to life with her custom artwork! From Mack's trailer to Lightening McQueen -- each and every piece of art she contributed made the room feel like a movie-set.
And thank you to the Rancho Santa Fe Foundation for generously granting Cecily's Closet the funds to keep our organization chugging along! Thank you for making Syler's Sweet Dream Room makeover a possibility!

During this time, he learned that providing quality work and operating in an environment of integrity earned him referrals, was a great way to grow a business, and matched his personal values. Jon founded PaintGreen in 2006.
Customers receive high-quality painting for a fair price. Painters receive fair compensation and respect on the job. Suppliers get honest dealings.
