Trenton's Story![]() Trenton is a 14 year old boy who loves video games, his Mom and his dog. His Mom is simply put: amazing. She advocates for Trenton at every turn and ensures he gets exactly what he needs to make his life better.
Trenton has severe Cerebral Palsy. As a result of his condition, he is unable to control any part of his body except his right arm. He uses a DynaVox for augmentative speech and is unable to feed himself or even drink through a straw. Due to a tragic outcome from a planned surgery, Trenton has been sleeping in a hospital bed in the living room - with his Mom just an arm-length away on the couch for two years. His Mom was afraid of leaving his side due to his chronic vomiting and all of his tubing: NG, NJ and PICC lines. He is now getting much stronger and has started eating on his own again. His last tube was removed on July 7, 2013 - so the completion of Trenton's room will mark his return to his own room! We're so grateful to the team at Eventful for providing the "magic touch" needed to transform his boring room into a fun place where he will want to be! Despite his medical condition, Trenton is still a typical teenage boy! His Mom describes him as strong, sweet and says that despite everything he has been through - he never complains! He always wears a smile on his face and tries as hard as he can to do things for himself. He almost died last year yet Mom always finds the positive in any situation. She describes Trenton as braver than words can describe and she lovingly refers to him as her hero! His bravery keeps his Mom putting one foot in front of each other every day, a hard job when you are watching your child suffer. Trenton's Mom is a reminder to all that a mother's love is fierce and can not be underestimated. She advocates for Trenton and does so with a smile on her face to ensure he is surrounded with positivity! Trenton is also loved and cared for by Teresa's partner, Dennis. Together this devoted pair ensure Trenton receives all the love and support he needs to achieve his full potential. Trenton's family is so grateful for all the work being done for her son. The team's charter was to help Trenton gain independence for the long recovery he has ahead of him. By providing him a room that not only supports his medical needs - but offers a fun and happy place to play - Trenton will be encouraged to once again take steps toward independence. The team surprised Trenton with an X-Box so we're pretty sure his new room will be his favorite place soon! Trenton's Mom is happy for the boost this makeover provided her son and her. She said the amount of people reaching out with the intent to recognize and understand her struggles was key! Teresa said, "This is a wonderful blessing for a family with a sick child. As parents we want to be everything to our children, with a special needs child we wear so many hats (many of them feel way too big on me)." We understand this sentiment and are just so excited to welcome Trenton into his new, tricked out spy-themed room! |
